Restock Time

It's my favorite time of the month when I get to add new inventory to the shop (yipee...). I am especially happy this time because I have acquired a lot of great knick-knacks, gold sculptures and lamps galore. Checkout this gorgeous Ab Lincoln bookends.

Now to describe and measure each piece, the less fun task. Hoping to have it all done by Sunday so be sure to visit the shop then.

Countdown to 2013 New Year's Resolution

TGIF folks. It's been a manic week, a manic year really, so I am kind of looking forward to this one ending and having the opportunity to start allover again. Inherent in this planning process, is coming up with a list of new year's resolutions that I consider challenging yet attainable. Off course this is not an easy list to come up with, as most of the items on past lists quickly fall into the "forgettable" or "WTF was I thinking" categories once the year took off. But 2013 will be different and I'll keep all my resolutions because they'll be more specific, measurable, and most importantly because I have resolved that I shall keep my resolutions.

Valerie's 2013 New Year's Resolution

1.  Keep your 2013 New Year's Resolutions.

Why didn't I ever think of this, it's bound to work now.

 2.  Work out for at least Forty-five minutes, five days a week.

I am hoping that by using minutes, instead of hours, as my unit of measurement, I psyche myself into believing it's a totally manageable amount of time and energy to expend.

3.  Eat at least two servings of fruits & vegetables daily.

Michelle Obama would be proud of me with this one. How can you go wrong eating more fruits & veges?

4.  Got to bed no later than 11:00 pm and wake up no later than 7:00 am on school days.

This may sound ridiculous to you, but with three kids below the age of three and a half and a business to run, I find that the only time I have to unwind and switch off, is late at night when everyone else is snoozing. Off course that means that I am groggy, exhausted, and crabby as heck when the kids come to wake me up at 7:00 am. I'm really not a morning person.

5.  Call, text, or e-mail my close friends and family at least once every two weeks.

Okay this is one I am really nervous about but must definitely work at. I'm sure with more rest it will come easier to me.

6.  Have a "Me" Day once a month.

I must include in my monthly schedule a me day. On this day they'll be no cooking or house chores, I'll work for only five hours and spend the rest of the day doing something that makes me happy. After the type of 2012 I had, I deserve this.

7.  Have date night once a month.

Okay don't judge me, but I have become one of those people that believes you have to schedule date nights. With everything going on in our lives I feel like if my husband and I don't commit to scheduled date nights, we'll end up becoming just co-parents.

8.  Save more....

I have never really been a saver, subscribing to the "I'll save when I have more money" ideology instead, but now that I have my own business I have come to appreciate the value in saving for the downtime.

9.  Do more charitable work.

Give more of my time and resources to good causes especially the Yoma Foundation and Action Ohio Coalition.  I should actively work on at least four toy drives for the Yoma Foundation and one fund raising dinner party for Action Ohio next year.

10.  Believe in myself.

I don't know about you but I usually freak out about the amount of stuff I have to do more so than about the individual tasks at hand, so I know that the only way I will make it through this list is by making the words "you are not delusional calm down and do it" my mantra for the coming year.

Wish me luck..

The Fabulous Porter Chair

So here is another piece from my prospective furniture line.

Concept Piece - Alex the Porter Chair from reStyled by Valerie

My take on the fabulously dramatic and timeless porter chair. I'm thinking she should be called Alexandra (Alex). A fitting name given the fact that the chairs were developed in 16th-century France to provide the porters/hall guards, of the grand castles, a bit of protection from the elements as they tended the entryway.

I love the drama and intrigue these chairs bring into a space, and in orange velvet mohair? Alexandra is sure to be the belle of the ball.
